Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 28, 2026
Given the topics we cover, we take your privacy seriously. Nobody should have to worry that reading an article about quitting drinking is being tracked and tied back to them personally. We've built this site with that in mind.
Here's exactly what we collect, why, and what we do with it.
What we collect
Analytics data — when you visit the site, we collect anonymised data including page views, general location (country/region level, not precise), device type, and referral source. This data is aggregated. It doesn't identify you as an individual.
Contact form / email data — if you contact us directly, we receive whatever you choose to send. We use it only to respond to your message.
What we don't collect — we don't collect personal health information on this website. We don't ask for it, we don't want it, and we don't store it.
How we use it
Analytics data is used to understand which content is useful, improve articles, and make decisions about what to write next. That's it. We don't sell data, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything beyond making the site better.
Cookies
We use:
- Analytics cookies — to track anonymised usage data (via Google Analytics or a privacy-focused equivalent)
- Essential functionality cookies — required for the site to work correctly
We don't use advertising cookies. We don't run ad targeting on this site.
You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time.
Third-party services
We work with a small number of third-party services to run this site:
- Analytics provider (e.g. Google Analytics) — anonymised usage data
- Hosting provider — serves the website
- Unsplash — photographic images used under their license
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy. We choose providers who handle data responsibly, but we can't be responsible for their practices.
Your rights under GDPR
If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — request that inaccurate data is corrected
- Erasure — request that your data is deleted
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Object to certain types of processing
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.
Your rights under CCPA
If you're a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it's used
- Delete personal information we've collected from you
- Opt out of the sale of personal information (we don't sell personal information)
To make a request, contact us at [email protected].
Data retention
Anonymised analytics data is retained for a maximum of 26 months. Contact data (emails) is kept only as long as needed to respond to your message and is then deleted.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe we've inadvertently collected data from a minor, contact us at [email protected] and we'll delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted clearly.
